Go For it! Help and Encouragement in Personal Evangelism

If you are reading this review on the Sabbath, then I would like to wish you a Sabbath filled with the joy of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

This week’s review is for the program, Go For it! Help and Encouragement in Personal Evangelism, featuring Ian Knox.

Description

Many Christians struggle with personal evangelism, sharing the message of Jesus Christ with others. One reason for this is that religion is generally considered a private affair in our society. To talk to others about your faith seems a little pushy and in bad taste. But Christian personal evangelism is not trying to convert others to your particular denomination, but to bring the good news about the love of God, forgiveness in Jesus, and the offer of a new life. The series shows why sharing Christ is important and provides Bible-based advice on how to witness.

Ian starts us off some vital verses that teach us about sharing our faith.

Romans 10:9-10:  If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Matthew 10:32-33

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.

1 Corinthians 9:16

For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

So going back to what the introduction says about society frowning upon us sharing our faith.  I have experienced this too, with comments like:

-You need to tone it down a bit

-You can demonstrate your faith with your actions

-Why does she (referring to me to someone else) have to be so vocal about her faith?

The last one is interesting because in that environment I was not so vocal about my faith, but somehow, that person still felt threatened by my faith.

So, right away, Ian Knox points to scripture that clearly shows we are to share our faith and those are not the only examples from scripture.  There are many!

I really liked how Ian reminded us, that as subjects of Jesus, we are supposed to do what He tells us to and gave other reasons why we need to share our faith.

Ian Knox gives practical advice on how to share the gospel, all based on scripture.  This includes three scripture verses that are good to share with a person who wants to become a Christian.  He then goes on to give wonderful advice about how to follow-up with these people in six areas of everyday life.

I really like how he stressed that we should not have debates with people who are not Christians or who are not interested in Christianity.  Debating is not the purpose for sharing the good news about Jesus.

This reminds me of advice the Apostle Paul gives to Timothy, in 1 Timothy 6:20-21: Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21 which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.

Ian goes on to  give detailed and practical information on how to communicate with people based on their objections to Christianity. Stating the common reasons people give for not committing to faith in Jesus Christ.

Ian has quite a lively personality and although he speaks in a way I don’t completely relate to, the message is clear, inspiring and to God’s honour.  Ian lifts up prayer and daily Bible reading for all Christians. Amen!

I have six pages of notes from this program!  The program was split into sessions.  So if you are short on time, you can watch it a session at a time.  I watched it over two days.

The video looks like it was made in the early 80s or so, judging by the outfits and hairstyles.  Nevertheless, everything Ian said, applies in 2025, because it is based on scripture and solid practical advice that applies no matter what the current year is.  So this is a timeless gem!

As Jesus commissioned all his disciples to go out and spread the gospel, I urge you to watch this program to get practical,  bible-based advice on how to do it.

I really could go on and on - this program was an amazing watch!

I watched, Go For It, via Vision Video’s website.

Thank you reading this review.  Until next time - peace be with you.
