If you are reading this review on the Sabbath, then I would like to wish you a Sabbath filled with acts of service.
This week’s review is for the series, Christianity Explored. Episode: James and John
Description
Christianity Explored is a ten-week course that introduces people to Christianity using the Gospel of Mark as its basis. Written by Rico Tice and Barry Cooper and originally run as a course at All Souls Church, Langham Place in London -- where it is still in use -- this widely-used course aims to introduce people to Jesus as they read the gospel of Mark -- who he is, why he came and what it means to follow him.
In this episode, Rico focuses on selfish ambition and although it is on some level hard to relate to what James and John asked Jesus, we are all selfish by nature.
Rico delves into Mark chapter 10, covering verses 33 -45 regarding the prophecy of what Jesus would do for all mankind and how James and John responded.
He then gives an example of another response to Jesus a bit later in the chapter, that shows how we should approach and respond to Jesus.
It’s amazing to think that we would choose to respond to Jesus, in any other way than humility, but yet, there are times when we don’t choose humility, or as Rico points out, we choose something over Jesus - an idol.
This episode was short, but sobering.
Rico has some very good reflective questions, at the end, which makes me so thankful for God’s mercy and patience with His children.
