Love Covers All
This week’s film review is for the film “Lover Covers All,” which is written by Rodrick Goins and Denise and Kyle Prohaska
Film Description
On the eve of his baby’s due date, Michael, a new father to be, gets stranded out of state with his wife in labor back home! In a panic with the birth drawing near, Michael seeks help from an old gas station owner named Bob, a mysterious man with a past who puts Michael’s faith to the test in a way he’ll never forget.
Filled with drama and relatable characters, LOVE COVERS ALL will challenge and inspire viewers young and old to let go of what’s behind and move forward to what’s ahead. It's never too late for a fresh start!
I was supposed to review another film, but my eye caught Love Covers All and some of the cast that I have seen in other Christian films, so I started watching it, giving it the 10 minute rule. I watched the entire film, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
There is a lot going on in key relationships. A husband and his wife, a father and son, a wife and her mother in-law - relationships that can easily heap up so much history filled with joy and pain. It also deals with divorce, unemployment and the uncertainties of starting a family. But most importantly, Love Covers All deals with the relationship we have with God, our Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, His Son. Is our relationship with God what we think it is, or what it is supposed to be?
One of the first scripture verses to be displayed had an impact on me, because I wrote it on a note a couple of days before. It is from Joshua 24:9 - As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.
But what does it mean to serve the Lord? The film questions what this means and it made me think of my daily Bible verse from yesterday: James 2:17 - So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
All too often our sinful natures convince us that we can sort out problems by ourselves. Oh this is too small to bother God with, I’ve got this. Or, this is overwhelming - so most of the time is spent panicking instead of going to the Creator, our Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name - as He says in His word. The plot was right in saying that the characters are relatable. How many times have I pouted and stressed because something “was not supposed to be this way!” Instead of going to my Heavenly Father for comfort, wisdom and peace. My daily verse today is from 2 Corinthians 12:9-10: And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
I reflected and prayed when I got the verse, and watching Love Covers All,makes me think all the more, how weak we are. We can make promises that we have no power to keep. We can confidently walk into situations and walk out again feeling the weight of failure. We can allow bitterness to creep in because we want our timing to have the last say, and not God’s. Love Covers All, shows that our weakness is only a bitter pill to swallow, if we allow pride to have a say. Paul said he boasted that he was weak and afflicted - it’s the only way we can gain access to the One who has all of the power.
Love Covers All, depicts how living on a sinful earth can wear us down, as one negative thing after the other happens, testing our faith, to the point where it goes beyond not knowing that to pray - to not praying.
I am reminded of Romans 8:18-37, that speaks of the suffering in this world, but the glory we have in God and what He has promised, which shall be done.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:“For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
SUMMARY
Love Covers All shows how God’s love gives us His grace upon grace. It gives glory and honour to God by showing how much we need our Creator to transform us from our sinful nature and how much His love covers the multitude of sins we have done, are doing and will do, before Jesus’ return, to make all things new. It shows how the more we seek the Father, the more we want to and will reflect His love to others, sharing the good news of His Kingdom through Jesus Christ and reflecting His character through our actions - by His grace and for His glory.
1 Chronicles 16:10 says: Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
Did the film encourage my faith?
Yes, it really touched on how hard this world makes relationships that were meant to be nourishing, comforting and a reflection of God, the Father. It showed the hope we will always have, because we have an all powerful, loving Creator - who is present, at all times, for all His creation.
Would I change anything about the film?
It ended too soon! I remember looking at the time thinking - it ends in 7 minutes?! What could possible happen with only 7 minutes remaining? I hope there is sequel, although sequels tend to not be as good as the first film.
