Hello everyone, welcome to our monthly book review for, The Names of God, by Marilyn Hickey.
Our review for May is the last name in the book, Jehovah Eloheenu, which means, the Lord our God.
Marilyn referenced a powerful verse from Isaiah 54:17, as part of a testimony, which reminds me of the wonderful experience of praying using God’s Word.
No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.
Marilyn does a wonderful job of emphasizing corporate prayer, while reaching out for Jehovah Eloheenu for blessings, unity and miracles within the church.
Marilyn brought up a very good point when she asked if we thought Moses pastored the sweetest people in the world. Scripture clearly shows that Moses had a sacrificial love for the nation of Israel. Marilyn asks if she want to have the same relationship with God that Moses had. She asks this question based on Psalm 103:7, an amazing verse that describes the relationship Moses had with God.
After the chapter was finished, Jesus’ prayer for the church came to my mind - the most powerful intercession for the church body. This can be found in John 17:20-26.
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
The chapter on Jehovah Eloheenu reminds us of the ideal - sacrificial love for the body of Christ, through intercession prayer and love in action, which by God’s grace will bring blessings to our local church, city and nation. Praise the Lord!
Reading and reviewing, The Names of God, has been a wonderful journey, but it doesn’t end there. These names will need to be revisited, time and time again, to familiarize ourselves with the character of God, so that we can also have a close walk with Him.
At the end of June, I will bring you a review for a brand new book, so stay tuned.
