Book Review: The Names of God (by Marilyn Hickey) Jehovah Tsidkenu
Hello everyone, welcome to our monthly book review for, The Names of God, by Marilyn Hickey.
Our review for August is the chapter for the name Jehovah Tsidkenu - The Lord, my righteous.
Marilyn references Jeremiah 23:5-6 for this name, which says - the Lord our righteousness.
This chapter ties in perfectly with the video I reviewed for this week, which is all about who Jesus is and His mission for humanity.
Both the video I watched (Soul) and this chapter on Jehovah Tsidkenu do a good job at explaining, based on scripture, how we cannot have our own righteousness, no matter what we do or say.
Psalm 49:7: Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life,
Isaiah 64:6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Marilyn comments on hos some Christian still think of themselves in dirty rags, but we are reminded that it no longer applies, once we have accepted Jesus’ free gift of salvation. Thanks be to Jesus - we are made anew.
Marilyn references 2 Corinthians 5:17,18,21
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 5:17
All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 5:18
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God, 5:21
This chapter is a wonderful celebration of our acceptance in the presence of God - thanks to Jesus.
No wonder Jesus is referred to as the blessed hope: Titus 2:13
I really like how Marilyn, through scripture, encourages us to remember what has happened as a result of us accepting Jesus and to remember we are clothed in His righteousness and can walk with confidence in our faith, our value and our future, as disciples of Jesus Christ.
What a blessing this chapter has been, going into the Sabbath, when we can rest in who we are, in the presence of God.
I look forward to reviewing the next chapter at the end of September.
Until then - peace be with you.
