Book Review: Radical Protection (Derek J. Morris)

Hello everyone, welcome to our monthly book review.  The review for June is Radical Protection by Pastor Derek J. Morris.

I listened to the audio book, although I also downloaded the PDF.  The audio book does not include the dedication and acknowledgement section.  So I would encourage you to also download the PDF, so that you can read these valuable sections.

Radical Protection is a six-chapter book, that is spiritually loaded with testimonies, scripture and practical advice on how we can use the resources God has given us, to be protected in the spiritual battle.

The book is compelling, powerful and inspiring.  It encouraged me to up my game, by doing the following.

• Write down scripture songs I already had in my head, in order to sing a different one, each day, before grace at dinner time. I was actually amazed at the number of scripture verses I have in my memory!  This is thanks to Hope Sabbath School Bible lessons, listening to Sabbath Radio and singing or listening to scripture songs.

• Dedicate the time to learn a new scripture verse each week. I have a copy of the song I want to learn, in several rooms in my home and available on my phone, so that I can practise when walking to and from work.

These changes in my routine have provided me with an assurance of seeking the Lord even more.  James 4:8 tells us to draw near to God.  This is something that we have to do consistently, because the devil is always trying to distract us, in our everyday lives.

Derek gives us three excellent strategies to fill our minds with the Word of God - the sword of the Spirit.  Which one will work for you?  Or maybe all of them will, as I recently found out, by creating scripture memory cards. 

Two other things come to my mind:  Derek gives the sword of the Spirit, a modern equivalent and when I picture that modern weapon in my mind, I am given a clear picture of what the Word of God does to the enemy, Satan.

The other thing is a testimony about Christians who had no strength against the attacks of the enemy, because they were not protected. Why weren’t they protected? They had not put on the armour of God.  This is a scary thought, because saying we are Christian, is not enough - our lives have to reflect who we say we are.  Actions speak louder than words.

Radical Protection is a compact, intense and spiritually led book that compels Christians to re-evaluate their awareness on the spiritual battle and what resources they are using to aid protection. 

It’s of course not only for Christians, it’s for everyone who wants God’s protection, in the name of Jesus Christ.  It’s for every living being on this earth.  It’s a must read or listen to.  What a blessing!

I’ll leave you with scripture this book references that I have read in my podcasts before - but you can never read the word of God too many times, especially, these verses, that are crucial right up until Christ returns.

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
