An Actor's Big Chance

This week’s film review is for the episode “An Actor’s Big Chance - The Glory of God,” which is produced by Dave Christiano.

Travis gets an offer for an acting job in New York City and has to decide if he's going to take it or not. This is a special movie presentation that originally aired as a 4 part episode in the TV series, 7th Street Theater. It has an important message about the glory of God!

An Actor’s Big Chance reminds us how we have to look at our motivation behind decisions in our lives and our willingness to question if we are doing something for our or God’s glory.

I am reminded of 1 Corinthians 10:31 - Whether therefore you eat or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God and Colossians 3:23-24, 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

I like the sketch with the lady who was taking a flight to Madrid. It was interesting how both people in the scene were Christians, one had full faith in God, while the other was fearful. I like how the one prayed for the other and how the one who prayed remembered to thank the Lord when the blessing came through.

Travis’ decision to accept or reject what seemed like a very generous offer was the main theme and we see how the rational of man can get in the way of our decision making. Travis was told the move would be the chance of a lifetime, an offer he couldn’t refuse. He was flattered with compliments and only given the weekend to make the decision.

This made me think of how important prayer is in our lives. Matthew 6:33 says, Seek thee first the kingdom of heaven and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

I like how, An Actor’s Big Chance, showed Travis’ circle of friends looked to God in what would be a significant change for the whole theatre group. I also liked that the advice and sentiments sent Travis’ way, were all God-centered.

One character spoke about patience and faith and how God makes the best out of situations. There were inspiring examples of humility and how the highest calling for Christians is to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ, for God’s glory.

An Actor’s Big Chance - The Glory of God, shows how the lives of Christians are meant to be God-centered - giving Him the honour and glory in everything that we do.
